Background

 

ASML is an innovation leader in the semiconductor industry, providing chipmakers with hardware, software and service to mass produce patterns on silicon through lithography.

Challenge

 

Recruiting the best software talent is a must when you’re one of the world’s leading manufacturers of chip-making machines, but nobody in the STEM fields knew about the company or what they did. The objective on all fronts was to drive awareness and engage the top talent in the STEM fields. To do that I believe employer brands should engage talent by being the thing they are interested in. In this case, problem solving and space adventures.

Solution

 

In collaboration with Codility, we created a fun challenge that blended problem solving with storytelling. Insights revealed that software engineers loved solving problems through coding and then enjoying the bragging rights. We came up with the premise of the The Galaxy Wanderer and that it was running out of fuel and critical life support systems. 

THE STORY

It’s the year 2150. Everything has changed. As the captain of the Galaxy Wanderer, you’re hopping from planet to planet, looking for a new home. But you’re desperately in need of fuel, and only your powerful coding skills can save you. 

PROMOTIONAL ASSETS

We developed a trailer inviting the software community in Europe to participate in The Intergalactic Coding Challenge. To drive the challenge, a full omni-channel campaign was developed. In addition to a social media mix with Reddit, Twitter, Facebook & LinkedIn, Stack-overflow and display bannering were also used.
